The reef creature characters in the animation and on the playing cards, in addition to real creatures, were designed by Sasha Meret. They were based on actual creatures to represent learning-type role models with different abilities and preferences were with input from the Psychology of Ability, Competencies, and Expertise Center (PACE) at Tufts University (formerly at Yale).
